Steve Barbour
President, CEO & Founder
Steve founded Upstream Data in 2017 after 10 years working in the oil and gas industry as a mechanical engineer. Steve is passionate about conserving energy waste and is a world leader in distributed computing infrastructure design and energy system optimization. Steve holds numerous patents in distributed computing and oilfield technology.

Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
For over a decade, James has been deeply entrenched in the Bitcoin and embedded Linux industries, crafting Bitcoin miner firmware and distributed computing firmware. James' acclaim within the Bitcoin community stems from his authorship of the BIP91 specification, which played a pivotal role in activating SegWit
Hank Romaine
Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Hank is an experienced growth company CFO with a strong background in M&A and corporate finance within the energy industry. Hank has a passion for helping businesses grow and will be guiding Upstream Data's scaling plans into the US and beyond. Hank enjoys sailing, skiing, biking and hiking in his free time with his wife.
Daryl Wills
VP Operations
Daryl has spent a career building and maintaining natural gas generators for upstream oil and gas facilities. Daryl heads all of our Canadian operations and leads teams of licensed mechanics, electricians and machinists.
Jeff Reid
VP Business Development (USA)
Jeff holds a Finance degree from the University of Wyoming. He began his career in procurement at Mesa Solutions, a leader in natural gas power generation, before transitioning to business development in the fields of distributed computing and microgrids. He later expanded his expertise in power distribution while working at Sunbelt Solomon.
Katrina Mooz
People & Corporate Services
Katrina is a seasoned professional with a strong background in Human Resource Management. As a hobby Katrina enjoys training her dogs Lyra & Peppy and has competed in agility, scent detection, rally obedience, and tracking.
Shelley LaGreca
Accounting Manager
Shelley boasts over 20 years of versatile financial experience across retail, agriculture, and the energy sector. When not at work, Shelley can be found tending to her farm where she recently added in a flock of chickens & guinea hens.
Marian Filipescu
Engineering Manager
Marian is a Professional Engineer with over 28 years of experience in the Oil and Gas industry, specializing in automation, optimization, and Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) systems. Certified by APEGA and holding a Master's in Electrical Engineering from a European university, he has applied his expertise across four continents, contributing to global projects with a focus on technical innovation and efficiency.
Spencer Schille
Product Line Manager
Spencer has 10 years of experience as an electrician in the oil and gas industry, with over 3 years of specialized work in the upstream sector of distributed computing. Outside of his professional work, Spencer enjoys spending time with friends, creating music, DJing, and playing golf.
Taylor Mari
Lead Draftsperson
Taylor leads our fabrication division and has over 15 years of experience in skid fabrication and self-framer steel buildings. In his off time Taylor enjoys long walks on the beach and cozy nights by the fire with friends.
Brett Rowan
Lead Programmer
Brett is a Software Engineer, mainly focused on mining farm control and automation. He designed and maintains pyasic, an open source miner automation library built with python, and has worked on many projects relating to portable datacenter control and automation.
Jeff Rivett
Sales Manager
Jeff has over 13 years experience in the Oil and Gas industry as outside sales for various production services businesses. Outside of work Jeff can be found volunteering in the community, coaching hockey or honing his game on the golf course.
