Gazprom Neft Mines Bitcoin as an Alternative to Flaring Unwanted Gas
Russia's Gazprom Neft is tackling gas flaring by turning it into electricity for cryptocurrency mining, with plans to expand. Vekus, a Russian mining operation, piloted the project, producing 1.8 bitcoin in a month. Upstream Data, similar to North American firms like Greenidge Generation, is among the contractors involved. Rosatom and En+ Group also enter the crypto mining arena, with Rosatom aiming to provide 240 MW of power. Upstream Data's approach stands out for its focus on sustainable solutions.
